Samsung Instinct: Historian’s Disappointment
by Historian on Jan.20, 2009, under Random Thoughts
First let me say that I typically love Samsung. This is my 3rd or f4th Samsung phone, my mini-dv camera: Samsung, Mp3 player: Samsung.. you get the idea. And I realize that the phone is also Sprints and that they control what the device does.
That said, I am thoroughly disappointed with my Instinct. Yes it is a media phone and it does that fine. Email works good too. Calendar sync to anything besides Outlook Web Access with Exchange… big fat fail. IM support? fails again. That wouldn’t sting so much if the Canadian version didn’t have MSN built right in to the device and not as downloadable app.
Where Sprint failed is easy to see.. the Community SCREAMED for keyboard support in java apps. Why? Because Sprint missed the mark on the apps they provided. So we all HAD to go somewhere else to get the functionality we wanted.
Do I have IM on my phone? No… does every other phone seem to have it? Yes.
I don’t want it as a java app, that means I have to leave it open.. and I can’t do other things on my phone.
The bottom line Palm’s Pre isn’t far off and I will be dumping the Instinct, and year later when my contract is up, I will be looking at the other carriers.
